Information for composers, arrangers and publishers

About us
The following information is to help answer questions from composers, arrangers and publishers who would like to be listed on our site. Contact us at info@harpmusicdownloads.co.uk if you have a question which isn’t answered here.

Terms
harpmusicdownloads.co.uk acts as an online-only point of sale. We offer two levels of agreements:

• If you sell your music through us exclusively you will receive 80% of the sale price that you set. We will retain 20% of the sale price. If you already sell your music through any other online site, then it must be taken down from that site within 14 days of your upload to harpmusicdownloads.co.uk.

• If you wish to sell your music through us, and through other online outlets as well you will receive 70% of the sale price you set. We will retain 30%.

You will supply us with finished PDFs of your work. These will be manually assessed and uploaded to the site.

Copyright and Licensing
harpmusicdownloads.co.uk only sells works that you have the legal right to publish. If you wish to publish an arrangement of another work, it must either be Public Domain in all countries or you must have received the express permission of the copyright owner to publish your arrangement. In the case of works that are not in the Public Domain or for which you do not own the copyright, it is your responsibility to have obtained permission and to pay any royalties due to the copyright owner.
IMSLP:Public_Domain provides a useful guide to copyright.

Pricing
The sales price is determined by you. We would encourage you not to discount downloadable works however. The value of work lies with the content and not the paper it’s printed on.

Protection for downloadable PDFs
The world of downloadable sheet music has always been a difficult one to navigate. There is a deeply entrenched thinking that PDF sheet music is free of any copyright restrictions and may be freely shared without fear of consequence. This is not the case of course, but regardless of this, the delivery of PDFs via an internet store very shortly after purchase is a reality which we have to work with.

In order to discourage the sharing of files, each purchase is stamped (watermarked) with the purchaser’s name and the purchase date. Customers are required to agree our terms, which include reminders about file sharing. PDFs are available for download for 30 days before expiring. Please see our Terms and Conditions to look at the terms customers must agree to before purchasing a download from our site. Composers and arrangers must also agree to have these terms apply to their works that are sold on harpmusicdownloads.co.uk. File sharing can be compared to illegal photocopying – it’s difficult to police and enforce. But a personalised stamp is an effective deterrent to most.

The sale of individual parts
For downloadable works that involve multiple parts (such as a harp ensemble), we would encourage you to make individual parts available for sale, alongside a score and parts set. It’s far easier for teachers or a group leader to send a link to the part for individual players to make their own purchase. This will hopefully discourage sharing of files or photocopying of parts.

What we need from you
If you would like to list your work on our site, you’ll need to upload a finished PDF file for each work you’d like to sell using the submission form.

If you want to sell individual parts of ensemble works, we will need a separate PDF file for the score and of each part (even if you’re only planning to set complete sets). Please do not send individual pages – combine all the pages for the score into one PDF and all the pages for the parts into one PDF.

Let us know what size paper your work is formatted for, so we can let customers know. Standard paper sizes vary between countries, so people may need to adjust their print settings to fit your PDF onto their paper size.

The personalised stamp with customer information will appear as a header on each page,13 mm from the top of the page. Be sure your PDF has enough top margin to accommodate this.

Revisions and changes
Your PDFs need to be completely finished before you upload them. Completely finished, or “publication ready” means that you have thoroughly proofread your scores and the cover artwork for any errors and made appropriate changes if necessary.
If you discover an error after you’ve uploaded your work, or you’d like to make a change to the music or cover, please send us the revised file(s) using the Piece Revision form. We appreciate that changes will need to be made from time to time, but excessive request for revisions will inevitably lead to delays. We allow two revisions per work. After that there will be a charge of £35 per revision.

Business Agreement
If you’d like to list your works with us, we’ll ask you to sign a simple agreement outlining the terms we’ve described.

We will send you a biannual report of sales along with any payment due for that six-month period. Any payment due will be made through the PayPal details you supplied.
We hope that this answers any questions you might have about selling your works through harpmusicdownloads.co.uk.

If you have any other queries, please fell free to contact us at: info@harpmusicdownloads.co.uk
We look forward to working with you!
